YouTube auto-captions

VTT files downloaded from YouTube's automatic captions show each line twice — once at the bottom, then again on top while the next line appears — and contain word-level timing tags. The converter removes the repeats and tags, so you get one clean line per subtitle.

Frequently asked questions

Does the conversion change the timing?

No. Times are copied exactly; only the notation changes from a dot to a comma. If your subtitles are early or late, fix them with the subtitle sync tool.

Are NOTE and STYLE blocks kept?

No — SRT has no equivalent, so comments and style sheets are dropped.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Text, subtitle files and videos are processed by your browser on your own computer. Nothing is sent to a server.

Accented or Cyrillic letters look garbled. How do I fix it?

The file uses an old encoding. Pick the right one in the Encoding menu under the input (for example Windows-1251 for Russian, Windows-1250 for Central European, Windows-1252 for Western languages). The output is always saved as UTF-8.
