What is kept and what is lost
- Kept: every
Dialogueline with its start and end time, sorted by time;\Nline breaks. - Removed: styles, fonts, colours, positions and override tags such as
{\an8}or{\i1}. SRT can't store them. - Commas inside the dialogue text are handled correctly.
Frequently asked questions
Will karaoke effects or signs survive?
No. SRT is plain text; positioned signs become normal subtitles and karaoke timing is dropped.
Can I convert SRT back to ASS?
Yes — use the SRT to ASS converter. The styles of the original file are not restored; the new file gets one plain Default style.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Text, subtitle files and videos are processed by your browser on your own computer. Nothing is sent to a server.
Accented or Cyrillic letters look garbled. How do I fix it?
The file uses an old encoding. Pick the right one in the Encoding menu under the input (for example Windows-1251 for Russian, Windows-1250 for Central European, Windows-1252 for Western languages). The output is always saved as UTF-8.
