How to convert SRT to text
- Open your
.srt(or.vtt,.sbv,.ass) or paste it. - Choose the Text layout: one subtitle per line, paragraphs, or lines with timestamps.
- Copy the text or download it as
.txt.
Which layout to choose
- Paragraphs — running text with sentence breaks; best for reading, quoting or feeding into a summariser.
- One subtitle per line — keeps the original segmentation; handy for translation.
- Lines with timestamps —
[01:02.000] text, so you can find the moment in the video.
Subtitles from YouTube auto-captions repeat lines; keep Remove YouTube auto-caption repeats on to avoid doubled text.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert the text back into subtitles later?
Yes — paste the text into the TXT to SRT converter. If you kept the timestamps layout, the times are reused.
Are italic and colour tags removed?
Yes, with Remove formatting tags on (the default on this page).
Are my files uploaded?
No. Text, subtitle files and videos are processed by your browser on your own computer. Nothing is sent to a server.
Accented or Cyrillic letters look garbled. How do I fix it?
The file uses an old encoding. Pick the right one in the Encoding menu under the input (for example Windows-1251 for Russian, Windows-1250 for Central European, Windows-1252 for Western languages). The output is always saved as UTF-8.
